Raises awareness about responsible waste management and its environmental impact through events and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Each person in the world generates waste every single day. Waste is a broad category with many appearances that can be generally categorized into domestic, agricultural, mining and manufacturing streams. There are multiple levels of waste hazardousness which dictates the methods of disposal or storage to minimize the harmful impacts on the environment. Environmental Engineering is an important aspect of ensuring that waste is managed correctly. Without proper waste management, the whole of society would be unable to function due to water contamination, air contamination and soil erosion. The Waste Focus community in SEED works in a cross disciplinary space with other professionals such as chemical engineers and environmental scientists to contribute to an environment where waste is managed appropriately.
This portfolio is responsible for promoting the awareness of the environmental impact of engineering choices made in the waste management field, by arranging talks, site visits or other means of communication.
